EC issues show-cause notice to RJD for failing to submit annual audit report for 2014-15

NEW DELHI: The Election Commission on Monday served a show-cause notice to Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) asking why its recognition as a state party should not be suspended over failure to submit annual audit report for 2014-15 despite several reminders.

The notice asked RJD to make a written submission within the next 20 days, along with its annual audit report for the said year and detailed reasons for the default, failing which the party shall be liable for action under Para 16A of the Election Symbols (Reservation & Allotment) Order, 1968.

Para 16 A empowers the poll panel “to suspend or withdraw recognition of a recognised political party for its failure to observe model code of conduct or follow the lawful directions and instructions of the Commission.”

Parties are required to submit their annual audit reports by October 31 of each year. This implies that RJD should have filed the said papers by October 31, 2015. EC, in its notice, said it had sent the party 8 reminders,…
