Dalit organisations threaten stir, Paswan asks Rajnath to look into their issue

NEW DELHI: The dalit organisation, which led the agitation against the alleged dilution of SC/ ST protection law in April, has set July 31 deadline for the government to pass amendments in the Act to nullify the Supreme Court order and meet a few other demands. It has threatened to launch nation-wide protests from August 9, if government fails to meet their demands.

Sources said the representatives of All India Ambedkar Mahasabha (AIAM) met Union minister and Lok Janshakti Party chief Ram Vilas Paswan on Saturday and put their demands. TOI has learnt that Paswan has written to home minister Rajnath Singh to look into their demands. The demands include putting an end to outsourcing for Class-III and Class-IV jobs, creating provisions for adequate representation of SC/ ST, OBC and women in the High Courts and the Supreme Court. They have demanded release of Dalit activists from jail who have booked under the National Security Act.
