2018 assembly polls: Congress and JD(S) charge a premium for ticket, BJP 'selects' by referral system

BENGALURU: To ensure that aspirants vying for an assembly ticket are serious about the 2018 assembly elections, political parties in the Karnataka have taken different routes, while issuing the forms.
From charging money to referral system and from seeking a ground level support to having a search committee, all parties are looking at winnable candidates.

The Congress charged Rs 25,000 per application for general category candidates, Rs 15,000 for SC/ST and Rs one lakh for ministers. The Congress has reportedly mobilised Rs six crore through the applications.

The JD(S) being a regional party, and considered to be a “league” below the two national parties in the fray when it comes to deep pockets, is charging Rs 20,000 per ticket for general category candidates and Rs 15,000 per SC/ST and women candidates.

The party has given out 378 applications till date. At the other end, the BJP has taken a “referral system” to select their candidates.
